Funniest post ever

The Cornerites were lamenting how terrible -- just terrible -- the attacks are on Jack Murtha's war record and Kathryn Jean Lopez said this:

RE: PURPLE HEARTBREAKERS [Kathryn Jean Lopez]

Mac, I recoiled when that congresswoman called Murtha a coward and don't disagree with Webb. But one thing: Webb writes, "The political tactic of playing up the soldiers on the battlefield while tearing down the reputations of veterans who oppose them could eventually cost the Republicans dearly." Is that an actual strategy out there? As I recall the White House tried to shut the Swift Vets down.

That really is the funniest post ever.

UPDATE: It seems that Kathryn Jean has received some eloquent e-mails politely objecting to this post of hers, causing her to offer a very believable and coherent explanation as to what she meant.

Her head is filled with rocks. As Roger Ailes says, Bill Buckley must be spinning in his grave.

Isn't TBogg the one who talks about Buckley being dead? Who the hell can keep those two apart anyway. Have you ever seen them together? Isn't that pretty suspicious?

In Casablanca Captain Reynaud tried to shut the gambling down at Rick's, too.

Ah yes, and wasn't Tom Delay's "K Street Project" his attempt to shut down the lobbyist scandal we're seeing now? He was really ahead of the curve on that one.

Funniest post ever? So funny I forgot to... well, you know the rest.

    "Delusional" comes to mind.

  6. They tried to shut them down. They simply approached the problem with their usual degree of competence and expertise. I'm not sure why this is hard to believe...

Personally, I thought the that congresswoman called Murtha was the funny part. Calling Murtha a woman would be a smear in some quarters, but in today's world there are numerous women serving in Iraq. If I were such a woman I would be offended...

So I wonder if mean Jean would care to address the implication?

I've seen other conservatives bemoaning the attempted swiftboating of Murtha, and what's obvious is that the only reason they're doing so is that it doesn't work. If it weren't backfiring (attracting more sympathy for Murtha and therefore more attention for his positions), they'd have nothing to say about it, or they'd be defending it, as they in fact defended the Kerry smears. They have no principles; they're Karl's operatives and the only thing that's changed is that Karl has lost some of his effectiveness.

I'm having a major schadenfreude attack. Is there a doctor in the house?

Just to be clear about her excuse - that Bush attacked all 527 ads and "called on Kerry" to do the same - the swiftboating ads were SLANDEROUS. Not ALL ads aired by non-profits are HATCHET JOBS. You can air a spot that isn't pure unadulterated CALUMNY.

Bush refused to call his henchmen in. She knows this, right?

I just saw him last week. He's not. Altho he is upset about the current NeoCon movement.

    Bartkid sez,
When does "tried to shut down" = "saying 'huh?"?

...As I recall the White House tried to shut the Swift Vets down...

Yes, they assigned Michael Brown to lead the "Shut Down The Swift Vets" taskforce, and, last I heard, he was doing a heck of a job.

Well, she trumped one airhead statement by Bush who can't remember which lie he just uttered for the puppetmasters, before he finds where he left off in the script, and begins another. Quote or parphrase Bush! Way to go Kathy! Can I call you Kathy?!
